Natural dyes, set under open sky

Colours drawn from roots, flowers, and minerals - and the small Indian atelier where they are made.

Colour from the ground

A small proportion of the Araha palette is dyed with natural pigments - madder root for a soft brick red, indigo for the deep blues, iron mordant for the greys and blacks.

They are set in the open air in a small atelier north of Jaipur that we have worked with for four years.

THE ATELIER

Natural dyes cure best in sunlight. The pieces are laid out on long cotton sheets on the flat roof of the dye-house and left for two to five days depending on the pigment.

We travel out twice a year to work on new colours together.
