Our process celebrates the beauty of the handmade, where no two scarves are exactly the same and character is part of the design. Subtle variations in print and colour are embraced as a mark of craftsmanship, not imperfection. |
Araha London creates luxury silk scarves using traditional hand block-printing techniques. Each piece carries the quiet imprint of the artisan’s hand, making every scarf truly individual.
Designed in Britain and crafted in India, each scarf is printed entirely by hand using carved wooden blocks, creating subtle variations and depth of colour that make every piece unique. Finished in limited runs, our scarves reflect a considered approach to design, craftsmanship, and enduring style.
Each Araha London scarf begins with the carving of individual wooden blocks by master craftsmen. Every block represents a specific element of the design, with separate blocks created for outlines, fills, and layered details. The printing process is carried out entirely by hand, with artisans carefully aligning and pressing each block in sequence—an exacting process that demands precision, rhythm, and experience to achieve consistent registration across the fabric.
Vegetable-based dyes are prepared using natural pigments and plant-derived binders, mixed in small batches to achieve depth and tonal variation. To introduce lighter motifs and complex pattern contrasts, discharge techniques are used to selectively remove colour from the dyed cloth, revealing new shades and textures beneath.
This combination of hand-carved blocks, natural dyes, and traditional printing methods results in richly layered surfaces and subtle variations, ensuring that no two scarves are ever the same—a true expression of artisanal craftsmanship and considered luxury.
